Crew

What is Crew at Everitt?

Crew, which originated from Expeditionary Learning and Outward Bound practices, is based on the belief that character development is as important as academic development in our students. In Crew we focus on Self Direction and Personal Responsibility; Critical Thinking and Creativity; Communication; Civic Engagement; and Academic Support. We use Crew to build community, build a positive school culture, and to provide students with an adult advocate in the building.

Each day of the week students participate in themed activities.

Council: Students respond to a question or topic to practice listening and speaking.

Challenges: Students participate in group and individual challenges to work on teamwork and problem solving.

Academic Day: Students have time to work on homework, and get additional academic support.

Grade Check: Students check their grades and write an email home sharing their academic progress.

Projects: Students work on long term projects that are collaborative, creative, involve service learning, and community building. 6th grade Crews, which average 14 students each, focus on the transition from 5th grade to middle school, spend more time on organization and executive functioning, and prepare for Outdoor Lab together.

7th and 8th grade Crews, which average 18 students each, focus on leadership between grades, career exploration, and the transition to high school.
