How it Works

We welcome all ages on this Mission to Read. Everyone benefits from keeping their minds active over the summer, even babies and adults.

Check in for your Mission

Pre-registration begins May 1 at any Library or online to register and get oriented. You can register individually, or as a family or group using one email address.

Reporting your minutes to base camp

It’s warp speed ahead this summer as you pursue your goal and seek out a fun summer of learning. Log your reading starting June 1 online at any time. For every hour that you read, you’ll earn a digital badge!

Mission Goals

Read for yourself. Read for your school. Or read to support Foothills Animal Shelter.

Launch your Mission to Read this summer by shooting for these recommended personal reading goals:

  • Babies & Toddlers (ages 0 -3): Complete 8 hours of pre-reader activities (read, write, talk, play, and sing).
  • Kids (ages 4 – 11): Read for 8 hours.
  • Teens (ages 12 -18): Read for 16 hours.
  • Adults (ages 19+): Read 16 hours.

Kids and teens have an additional Mission to Read. We’re challenging all Jefferson County Public School students to read for their schools. Learn more.

Looking for additional motivation to reach your Summer Reading goals? Help us conquer our intergalactic mission of reading 50 million minutes as a county! When we reach our countywide reading goal, the animals at Foothills Animal Shelteropens a new window benefit.
