Dear Everitt Community:

I want to welcome you back for the 2017-18 school year. Our vision at Everitt is "we engage students through critical thinking and empower students toward academic achievement". Our staff at Everitt believes that all students can be successful learners and citizens during their time at Everitt. In order to help our students become successful learners and citizens at school we need to establish a strong partnership between home and school that is embedded in strong communication. One of our goals this year is to implement strategies to help give our students a growth mindset. Students who integrate a growth mindset "believe their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work". A growth mindset creates "a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment". It creates intrinsic motivation and productivity in their daily lives. Students believe that they belong at Everitt and their hard work creates accomplishment. A growth mindset is so powerful that it changes the way students prioritize their social needs and makes learning the most important part of their school day. Teachers and staff are committed to creating engaging classrooms for all students that instill in students a growth mindset each and every day.

The partnership we create between school and home helps us support and instill a growth mindset with each student. Our goal is to create in every student the belief that they (are):
‚Äč

  • Accountable for their choices
  • Self-Advocates
  • Risk Takers (positive)
  • Understand their role
  • Responsible as learners
  • Display perseverance
  • Are intrinsically motivated
  • Belief in self
  • Belief in the Everitt learning community
  • Think Critically
  • Problem Solvers
  • Engaged with learning in all classrooms
  • Define their success/set goals
  • Know how to be a learner
  • Know the business of school
  • Kind, caring and respectful
  • Identify a passion with learning

We are asking that you help us with this vision and mission so that all of our students are excited to come to school every day and that we change the priority from social interaction to learning (knowing that socializing is still important). Please join PTA, Accountability and communicate with your child’s teachers on a consistent basis so that we can ensure that every student that spends time at Everitt are prepared for high school and life with a clear understanding of being a thinker as well as what success looks like for them as an adult.

Sincerely,

Jeff Gomez
